Book Covers
Set of two volumes

Concept
A repeat client requested a revamp of two covers for their previously published books. They wanted to retain some of the visual style for recognizability but make it look more sleek and professional while also traditional.
Tasks
-
Retain some of the visual recognizability
-
Add in imagery of bronze acupuncture statues
-
Include both the Chinese and English wording
-
Fit in as many reviews on the back cover as possible without losing legibility
Purpose
Create two new book covers for the updated edition. The client wanted to use them to promote the books and to include new additional books reviews on the back.
Visual Recognition
First, I consulted with the client and understood that they wanted to retain some visual link to the previous edition. Aside from the English and Chinese titles remaining the same, the only other major visual indicator of each volume was the color, so I suggested keeping volume one as yellow and volume two as orange for the new covers as well.

Bronze Statue Imagery
The second request was to include imagery of a bronze acupuncture statue on both covers. After some discussion, two images were chosen.

Formatting
After the designs were approved, the covers were brought into InDesign and the bleed, trim, and safe areas were double-checked.

Final Covers
The client was very happy with the final covers. The goals of retaining visual recognition, using images of the bronze statues, fitting many reviews on the back cover, and overall upgrading the look to something more sleek and professional were achieved.

Feedback
The client kindly sent me a screenshot of his private group showing me that the covers were well-received by others within the acupuncture community.
